In stock on March 27, 2019. Temporarily out of stock. Only 6 left in stock (more on the way). Symphony 9 goes well, with excellent work from the singing cast and chorus. It is a very good performance, but doesn't quite realize the level of thrill conveyed by Weingartner and the Vienna Philharmonic nor Karl Böhm and the excellent Frankfurt Radio Orchestra on Brilliant Classics. Unfortunately, both these rivals are mono, though otherwise well realized.

Beethoven s symphonies & overtures have always been of high interest to all types of music lovers. Klemperer, having fights for his own life, could relate to this compelling desire to express what was inside of him. This 10-CD set not only includes the complete symphonies but also all nine overtures and extracts from the Incidental music to Egmont and the ballet The Creatures of Prometheus.

The Gewandhaus Orchestra's history of playing the nine symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven extends back to 1825, when the composer was still alive, and these masterworks have been a mainstay of their repertoire ever since. After Riccardo Chailly took the helm of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in 2005, the idea of performing the full cycle for Decca under his direction became an imperative, and the recordings were made between 2007 and 2009

Recording Venue: Philharmonie, Berlin.

Redlands Symphony proudly presents BEETHOVEN's Symphony No. 3 Eroica, op. 55. Discover little-known secrets and interesting discorse on its history, creation, and performance. In classical symphonies, it was unusual to find a funeral march in the place of a song-like slow movement. The third movement was no longer the traditional minuet and trio, but a relentlessly driving scherzo with a contrasting trio for hunting horns. The last movement was a set of variations on a theme from Beethoven’s ballet The Creatures of Prometheus. The symphony begins with two fortissimo E-flat major chords followed immediately by a simple theme constructed out of the notes from the chord. Virtually all of the melodic material in the work is built from this single chord

Ludwig van BEETHOVEN (1770–1827) Symphonies 1-9 Oksana Lesnichaya (soprano); Irina Romishevskaya (mezzo); Algis Janutas (tenor); Alfred Muff (bass) Moscow Chamber Choir; Vesna Boys Choir Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Radio/Vladimir Fedoseyev rec. live, Grand Hall, Moscow Conservatory, Moscow, January 2004 – October 2006 RELIEF CR991089.

Beethoven wrote nine symphonies, nine concertos, and a variety of other orchestral music, ranging from overtures and incidental music for theatrical productions to other miscellaneous "occasional" works, written for a particular occasion. Of the concertos, seven are widely known (one violin concerto, five piano concertos, and one triple concerto for violin, piano, and cello); the other two are an unpublished early piano concerto (WoO 4) and an arrangement of the Violin Concerto for piano and orchestra (Opus 61a). WoO 4: Piano Concerto No. 0 in E-flat major (1784).
