I feel like I should make my first review of a release to this one in particular. Mainly because this was the first release I bought from Ministry Of Sound and got me into the whole MoS family. On top of that, I was introduced to trance music and electronic music as a whole because of this compilation. Before I address the criticism towards the release, I would like to review the release itself. For my review, I will review each disc separately and then make a statement towards the negative criticism. Most of the songs on the first disc can be summed up as the more commercial and chart-topping trance. One who probably was never into trance music could recognize Darude’s Sandstorm, Zombie Nation’s Kernkraft 400 (DJ Gius Remix), and Alice Deejay’s Better Off Alone. The disc starts off with showcasing most of the hard trance that appears on the entire compilation, with tracks including Warrior’s Warrior and Storm’s Time To Burn. After the hard trance segment comes tracks considered euro-trance, of which include Sash!’s Encore Un Fois and ATB’s Till I Come. While out of the euro-trance scene, most of the first disc is loaded with vocal trance selections, as is prominent during the later moments of the disc, with highlights including Angelic’s It’s My Turn and iiO’s Rapture (Riva Remix).Disc two presents the more classic anthems in trance music, with most being unrecognizable to those new to the trance scene. There isn’t one single style present on the release, as I could hear various styles of trance such as hard trance and classic trance. Despite this disc to be a strictly 90’s collection, some tracks go as old as Humate’s Love Stimulation (Paul Van Dyk Remix) and as recent as Lost Witness’s Happiness Happening. Favorites of mine on this disc include Rank 1’s Airwave and Veracocha’s Carte Blache. Interesting to note that the song that starts off this CD, Paul Van Dyk’s Forbidden Fruit, never appeared on any of the original Trance Nation compilations. Disc three takes the listener to the progressive side of trance music. Starting the disc is two break/trance hybrids: Hybrid’s Finished Symphony and Olive’s You’re Not Alone. Right after we are taken right into the progressive trance scene, starting with the classic Heaven Scent by Bedrock. This disc shows off much diversity within this presentation of trance music, with some as old as Jam & Spoon’s Stella and others as more recent as Slusnik Luna’s Sun, even though I know those songs in particular are not progressive. Personal favorites on this disc include Chicane’s Saltwater and Hands Burn’s Good Shot. Now I can see what the criticism is mainly about this release, and I can see it with other releases made by Ministry Of Sound, that is Ministry Of Sound tends to release the same songs all over again on so many releases. It’s also funny actually because when JangoF76 said to “expect another one like it in a couple of years’ time”, MoS released later the same year he made his comment Trance Nation The Collection, which was pretty much equivalent to this release. But take into account that this release was made for those who just got themselves into trance and can’t get their hands on the original Trance Nation Series. I’d love to get my hands on a release from the original Trance Nation series, but the price is sky-rocket high. If this is the first compilation for anyone getting into trance music, like it was for me, then it is certainly worth the money.

yes, this is a good start for someone new to trance music... at least it worked for me 4 years ago... :)

I agree with JangoF76 If you want a trance classics album, buy a classic trance album! Get Gatecrasher Wet, instead of this.

I stumbled across this while casually browsing discogs, and felt compelled comment. Aside from another shameless and predictable attempt to obtain money for nothing by good 'ol MOS, there is no point to this album.Granted there are many outstanding trance classics here - the problem is that anyone who is seriously into trance already owns all of these tracks, and has done since the turn of the century, or thereabouts. Plus, there are some very predictable, some rather suspect, and some downright offensive offerings here - since when is cheesy eurodance (Sash! - Encore Une Fois, Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone), and mediocre chart trash (Olive - You're Not Alone) anything to do with trance?!And Lord, please spare us yet another compilation album with Born fucking Slippy on it!This is a carbon copy of a hundred blah trance compilations from 8 years ago - the only thing different is the cover. The sad thing is you can except another one like it in a couple of years time, with all the same tracks on it. The REALLY sad thing is that there's a market for it. People who don't know anything about good music (ie, anyone who thinks what they hear in the Ministry Of Sound on a Saturday night is fresh) should not be allowed to buy music. In fact, if I had the money, time and resources I would pay people NOT to buy this kind of recycled crap. There could even be some sort of incentive scheme, something like...I don't know...for each time you refuse to allow MOS to force-feed you the same tired music in a shiny new wrapper, you get £10 and the opportunity to kick Judge Jules in the bollocks...

Yepp, you're pretty much right. This is a cash grab, they just compiled a bunch of popular dance tunes and put them on one CD.

This package seems a excellent opportunity to get classic tracks plus three mixes for the bargain price of £7.99 There are some niggles though: Firstly we have versions of track that differ from what was used on the Trance Nations, namely: Encore Une Fois (Original 12" Instead of Future Breeze Mix) Your Face (Schizoid instead of In The Crowd) Happiness Happening (Original instead of Lange Remix) Don't Give Up ((Alex Gold & The Sound Xpress Mix Instead of The Original) A couple of the tracks fade out, at a particularly annoying point with Brainbug, at least Slusnik Luna doesn't fade out during the main part of the track. There's also the inclusion of a few tracks that were never on any Trance Nation album: Tiesto-The Tube, Hybrid-Finished Symphony, Paul Van Dyk-Forbidden Fruit and Underworld-Born Slippy The three DJ mixes included are very loosely and badly mixed, like whoever mixed them was just having a laugh. Can't argue for the money its cheap as chips for a good selection of trance classics (17p per track) although could've been a bit better by including the correct versions of tracks and a few more that had appeared on the comps rather than including ones that didn't.
