Monster is the ninth studio album by American rock band . and was released on September 27, 1994 by Warner Bros. Produced by the band and Scott Litt and recorded at four studios, the album was an intentional stylistic shift from . s previous two albums-Out of Time (1991) and Automatic for the People (1992)-with loud, distorted guitar tones and simple arrangements. Michael Stipe's lyrics, dealing with the nature of celebrity, are sung by him in several characters.

For their ninth album, Monster, . got back to making what guitarist Peter Buck had previously described to the NME as a "real noisy rock’n’roll record". Published on. November 12, 2017. Bolstered by support acts including Grant Lee Buffalo and Died Pretty, the Australasian and Far East dates went off without a hitch, but when the tour swung through Europe and reached Lausanne, Switzerland, on 1 March 1995, Bill Berry complained of severe headaches while onstage and was later diagnosed with a ruptured brain aneurysm. Remarkably, after surgery and the cancellation of a raft of dates, Berry rejoined the tour in the US in May, though after . returned to Europe, disaster struck again, with Mike Mills requiring urgent abdominal surgery.

From the androgynous sleaze of "Crush With Eyeliner" to the subtle, Eastern-tinged menace of "You," most of the album sounds dense, dirty, and grimy, which makes the punchy guitars of "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" and the warped soul of "Tongue" all the more distinctive. Monster doesn't have the conceptual unity or consistently brilliant songwriting of Automatic for the People, but it does offer a wide range of sonic textures that have never been heard on an .

This listing is for an REM Monster Tour t-shirt and concert program. Both items were purchased at the October 12, 1995 show at Philadephia's Corestates Spectrum. There is a Michael Stipe graphic on the front and the tour dates, listed up and down, are on the reverse. The t-shirt is hardly worn but it does have some small stains (see pictures).
