Rocka Rolla is the debut studio album by British heavy metal band Judas Priest, released on 6 September 1974 by Gull Records. It was produced by Rodger Bain, who had made a name for himself as the producer of Black Sabbath's first three albums. It is the only album to feature drummer John Hinch. According to the band, the album was entirely played live, in studio (.

Judas Priest's first album, Rocka Rolla, is a kind of "forgotten" album.

Rocka Rolla - Студийный альбом от Judas Priest. Вышел 6 сентября 1974г. В альбом вошло 34 треков. Продолжительность альбома: 01:45:06. judas priest - Never Satisfied - Rocka Rolla. Judas Priest - Cheater subtitulado (español - ingles). Judas Priest - Rocka Rolla. judas priest - Cheater - Rocka Rolla. Cheater (Judas Priest Cover).

A sketchy and underfocused debut, Rocka Rolla nonetheless begins to delineate the musical territory Judas Priest would explore over the remainder of the decade: frighteningly dark in its effect, tight in its grooves, and capable of expanding to epic song lengths. On the other hand, Rocka Rolla is also murkier, less precise and powerful in its riff attack, and more blues-based; the stylistic debts to Black Sabbath and Deep Purple are obvious at this juncture, although they would become much less apparent on subsequent releases.

Band Name Judas Priest. Album Name Rocka Rolla.

  • Acrobat
Old coke bottle green colour and embossed cover are pretty resplendent. Sounds good with correct sound adjustments.
  • Jugore
How's the sound on this version? This company's vinyl reissue sounded like the Koch remaster (it stayed in sync with it too), so I wouldn't be surprised if this CD was the same.
  • Mojar
Overall not bad but the high end sounds harsh almost distorted.
  • Gold as Heart
Free download is mp3 only, no FLAC nor WAV files :-(Otherwise, another version of 'Rocka Rolla' for my collection. I've begun listening to this album more and more in the past couple of years, mainly due to the fact that it followed 'Redeemer of Souls' on my playlist. I was never a big fan of it growing up, but now that I'm older/wiser (?) I've come to appreciate 'Rocka Rolla' more and more. The band had no clue that they would have legions of fans the world over in just a little under a decade away from this album's release.
  • Vivaral
just got this one today, I LOVE THE EMBOSSED SLEEVE, that was the main selling point for me as i have other copies of this as i have been a priest fan since 1978 ( 40 years now) the nicest and rarest copy of this pressing is the original japan 1977 pressing wich is not to easy to come by now, anyway this comes with a download card and obviously a greenish color to the vinyl ( not really coca cola looking) and the record sounds great, im an odd man out here but i feel priests work from THIS RECORD in 1974 up to killing machine was there best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i also love the killer records of the 80s priest did. i always had a special place in my heart for this lp..................... very overlooked for decades
  • Ann
Priest!! Cool bottle colored vinyl, with some minor visual imperfections. After a spin on my cleaning machine, this lp sounded great. Love the embossed cover, where you can fell the water beads on the bottle cap. Includes download and a paper sleeve for the record, which I feel is a bit cheap considering the is limited edition release, however, this is a minor nuisance. Therefore, I highly recommended this release for it's sound, vinyl quality and packaging.
  • Aver
My copy has a lot of surface noise, fairly disappointing pressing.
  • X-MEN
Excellent reissue. Nice remastered sound and matte packaging. Recommended even if you own an original press or early press.
  • Magis
This manufactured in Brazil. Sound taken from 1st UK vinyl edition Rocka Rolla album. This edition have best sound of album on CD !!!!
  • inform
Never Satisfied is not a copy of the original of the record first edition,as Rocka Rolla the songs clocks at 3.00 instead of 4.00 from Gull UK 1st press
  • Vijora
Recently got this CD. Quite simply, this is honestly the best CD version/recording of this classic album I have ever heard... SUPERB! - the same for 'Sad Wings Of Destiny' too!
  • salivan
Anyone know when this was released? I'd guess between 76 and 82 but can't find anything to confirm a release year.
  • Broadcaster
If you're used to the classic era of Priest, this album may come as a surprise. Much bluesier, slower and deliberate than Metal Gods Priest, it exhibits the underlying raw sinews and muscle that the band built upon. Tracks like "Cheater," "One For The Road" and the title track, "Rocka Rolla" are worth listening to and adding to your personal list of Priest canon.
  • Shak
This record is awesome might you listen to a little bit of it here:http://allmetalmixtapes.com/judas-priest-1974-rocka-rolla/
  • Jorius
rob actually signed my copy of this italian pressing back in 1992, nice italy pressing from the late 70s/early 80s.........
  • great ant
Doesn't first pressing say Thanks for the words Al! and subsequent sleeves have this blurred out and then finally removed completely?
  • Mayno
There are first pressing releases with that removed but Rocka Rolla 4 min. version
  • Nettale
I got this one long ago in NM shape from a vendor that sold it to me as if it was the very first 1974 issue; it was not, I was dissapointed when I received it and immediately noted it was the 1978 british reissue. Nevertheless, I appreciated having a copy in such great shape with the edited 3 minutes version of the Rocka Rolla song.
  • Steelcaster
I recently got this very first issue in a solid VG+ shape for both, media and sleeve (with the orginal Decca inner sleeve also!). I am very happy of finally have the original 4 minutes version of the Rocka Rolla song that was replaced by the edited 3 minutes version in subsequent reissues of the album.
  • Micelhorav
Rocka Rolla 4.00 mins is in this version1st pressing: Non-gatefold sleeve, Robert Stace credit (bottom right corner).(Not PYE)Label notes:1st pressing with Decca style matrices and credits on labels: “The Decca Record Co. Ltd”.Matrix 1st press (stamped):XZAL-13291.P-3WXZAL-13292.P-1W
  • Bliss
i checked 3 different early LP versions, including this, and all are with Rocka Rolla at 3 minutes so i "think" that the 4.00 mins was just a misprint on the tracklength
  • Shalinrad
IMO a very under rated Priest album. Never Satisfied is my personal favorite.
  • Shazel
Beautiful presentation, great material quality, excellent sound remastered and features the early version od Diamond And Rust previously avaliable only in the Hero Hero release and in some re-presses of Rocka Rols in CD. But, it features the same problem as the Back On Black versions of Sad Wings of Destiny: It does not respect the original cut of the vinyl sides which, for this album, mark the end of side A with Cheater and the beginning of side B with Never Satisfied while this press ends the side A with Never Satisfied and opens the B side with Run Of The Mill. Fortunately, Never Satisfied and Run Of The Mill are originally totally separated songs then the problem is only related to the mistake of not following the original cut. Anyway, a mistake that should not be there...
  • Thomeena
this is a very nice reissue of this debut classic by judas priest that to this day over 40 years later is still a very underrated record, this was recorded in 1974 and this was done at a time when priest did not seem to have there image straight as if you look at photos from this era or watch that top of the pops video from 1975 they dressed more like it was 1966 or 67 then 1975, anyway the music on here is great, this is PRE METAL GOD priest but very well done, not as heavy as what would come by 1977 with sin after sin but still i dare to say this record is almost as good as sad wings of destiny, this is a nice gatefold reissue on pure white vinyl and it looks great, im very pleased to have this for my priest collection as ive been a priest fan since 1978 now, anyway wonderful sleeve, lyrics inside the gatefold and once again awesome white vinyl, i have a number of copies of this record and to this day my favorite copy is the original japanese 1977 pressing of this as the obi strip on that blends right into the lp artwork same as sad wings does, anyway this to is a VERY NICE COPY OF THIS RECORD
  • Jerinovir
Which of Your copies sounds best? Can You give me a hint?
  • MARK BEN FORD
this is my favorite pressing of this classic debut priest record, this was released in japan in 1977 NOT 1974 along with sad wings of destiny and another compilation lp called the best of judas priest ( wich is basically songs culled from rocka rolla and sad wings of destiny) anyway the sound on this is superb and the obi strip artwork blends in so nice with the sleeve that i feel of all the copies of this record i have owned for 36 years now THIS IS THE NICEST ONE!!!!!! it comes with a lyric sheet in both english and japanese..........
  • HyderCraft
of all the copies of this great judas priest debut from 1974 i have THIS IS THE NICEST COPY, this was released along with sad wings of destiny in japan in 1977 after judas priest released there debut cbs release sin after sin worldwide in 1977, this was the first japan pressing of this record and i love how the artwork blends right in with the obi strip, this is beautiful.....................................
  • LoboThommy
Anybody know what the deal is with this pressing? No barcode so it's maybe late 70s, early 80s?
  • Gavirus
Although largely considered a weak Priest album, due to the embryonic state of their style, it remains a favorite of mine. The only true misfire here is the Winter trilogy. The title song is sing-along catchy, "Dying to Meet You" is moody as hell, and "Never Satisfied" is a strong song that, although bluesier than later Priest, would fit quite well on post-Sin After Sin Priest albums, especially with Halford's trademark scream at the end.
  • Dugor
A true classic by one of the pioneers of NWOBHM. 85/100
  • BOND
True classic for sure, but pre-dates NWOBHM by about 4-5 years. Priest is definitely part of the old wave along with Sabbath and Deep Purple and Zeppelin.
