Average White Band - Tonight: Average White Band In Concert download album
The Average White Band (also AWB) are a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track "Pick Up the Pieces", and their albums AWB and Cut the Cake
But it wasn't until they reached the US and were signed to Atlantic Records that the Average White Band really took off (Jerry Wexler signed them on the spot, after they hit him at home on one of his parties, where they played him the basic tracks for what would become the White Album: "AWB"). Arif Mardin became their producer and together they couldn't do wrong.
In June of 1975 the group issued their 3rd studio album Cut the Cake, which featured the N. 0 hit title track. Their 5th album Benny & Us deviated a bit from their typical style and was actually a collaborative effort with Soul/R&B legend Ben E. King. The Average White Band is certainly turned into the stereotypical songs that are played at weddings. You think of the song Pick up the Pieces and picture over aged men and women dancing terribly at a wedding reception. It is the image that was in my mind when I went to see this band play.
