The Locust is an American grindcore band from San Diego, California, United States known for their unique mix of grind speed and aggression, complexity, and new wave weirdness. The band is noted for their use of insect costumes when performing live. Prior to The Locust founding members Justin Pearson and Dylan Scharf were in the hardcore punk band Struggle together, formed in late 1990. The band only lasted three years.

Unto the Locust is the seventh full-length studio album by American heavy metal band Machine Head, released in Australia on September 23, in the UK on September 26 and worldwide on September 27, 2011. The album was produced and mixed by Robb Flynn, and it was the band's highest charting album ever, charting at 22 on the Billboard 200, until their following release Bloodstone & Diamonds charted at 21. Unto the Locust was recorded in Green Day's Jingletown Studios.

The Locust is the fourth release and first full-length album by powerviolence band The Locust. It was released on 12" LP in September 1998 on Gold Standard Laboratories. A 3" CD version was released in May 1999. Untitled (Kid606 remix) – 1:13 (hidden track in the pregap). Moth-Eaten Deer Head" – 1:12. Brand New Set of Teeth" – 0:38.

Like ‘Locust,’ the next track, ‘This Is the End,’ has an impressive balance of heaviness and melodic elements. As Flynn’s harmonious vocals turn into gut wrenching growls, it goes to show the levels of talent of which he's capable. Not to overshadow the rest of the tracks which make up this incredible album, but ‘Darkness Within’ is possibly one of the best songs, if not the best song on the album. A children’s choir on a Machine Head album? This is the case with the last song, ‘Who We Ar. As listeners get through the first 30 seconds of the slightly eerie kids singing, the track leads into an unrelenting anthem of strength. With spiraling guitar solos throughout and a military sounding snare towards the conclusion of the song, violins get the last word in the end. As epic sounding as the album started in the beginning is as dramatic as ‘Unto the Locust’ ends. Watch the Lyric Video for 'Locust'. Filed Under: Machine Head.
